Rising Concerns Over Youth Mental Health and Mobile Use
This heartbreaking incident raises important concerns about the mental health of young people and their growing dependence on mobile phones. In another recent case, three boys in Delhi allegedly stabbed their 16-year-old friend after he refused to give them a “treat” for buying a new smartphone.
Similarly, a 16-year-old boy died by suicide last year after his father took away his smartphone following a heated argument. The boy had been addicted to video games, and after his father confiscated the device to help him focus on his studies, he was found hanging the next morning.
These incidents shed light on the urgent need to address the mental health challenges that young people face in today’s digital world, where smartphones and online activities play an increasingly central role in their lives.
