In the shocking Baba Siddique murder case, two suspects have claimed affiliation with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, according to sources. The police, however, have not yet verified these claims, and the gang has not admitted responsibility for the killing. The high-profile murder, which has raised security concerns ahead of the Maharashtra state elections, has prompted an intense investigation.
Baba Siddique Murder,
Baba Siddique, 66, a former Maharashtra minister and prominent figure from the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was gunned down in Bandra last night. He had previously served three terms as an MLA for Bandra West.
The incident occurred near his son’s office, where at least six bullets were fired, four of which struck Siddique in the chest. The police suspect it to be a contract killing and have formed four special teams to investigate the case further.
The shooters, three in total, carried out the attack during the Dussehra festivities. Two suspects, Gurmail Baljit Singh (23) from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap (19) from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested, while the third remains at large. Authorities believe another individual may have provided the assailants with information about Siddique’s movements.
During interrogation by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, the arrested suspects admitted they had been conducting reconnaissance for nearly a month. The attackers arrived at the scene in an auto rickshaw and waited before launching their fatal assault, said sources.
Investigators are exploring two potential motives behind the Baba Siddique murder: one involving the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and another related to a slum rehabilitation case. The gang’s involvement is suspected due to Siddique’s ties with Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who has previously been threatened by Bishnoi.
Despite Siddique receiving a death threat 15 days ago, he did not report any specific concerns regarding the Bishnoi gang, according to police. He had been provided ‘Y’ category security cover following the threat.Baba Siddique Murder Suspects Claim Ties to Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Amid Security Concerns
Authorities across Mumbai, Gujarat, and Delhi are coordinating on the investigation, with central agencies also involved. Lawrence Bishnoi, currently imprisoned in Gujarat, remains linked to numerous criminal activities, including the murders of rapper Sidhu Moosewala and a gym owner in Delhi. His gang, which is estimated to have over 700 shooters, is also known for issuing ransom demands to businessmen.
With growing speculation about the Bishnoi gang’s potential involvement, the Baba Siddique murder has become a significant focal point in the run-up to the state elections.
