Maharashtra Elections
Despite the nomination deadline passing, uncertainty surrounds around 15 seats in Maharashtra Elections , as neither the ruling alliance nor the opposition have finalized their candidates for these positions. The ruling coalition of BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has yet to announce candidates for four seats, leaving voters and party members guessing.
Meanwhile, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)—comprising Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction, Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction, and Congress—also remains undecided on 11 seats. The BJP has nominated 152 candidates, NCP (Ajit Pawar) 52, and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) 80, including seats allocated to smaller allies, with four for the BJP and two for Shiv Sena. On the MVA side, Congress has fielded 103 candidates, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction and Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction are running with 87 candidates each.
Sharad Pawar’s announcement of 87 candidates for his NCP faction hasn’t clarified the status of the remaining 11 seats. While some seats are expected to go to smaller allies, including the Samajwadi Party, it’s still uncertain which seats are being offered and to whom.
This delay reflects weeks of negotiation and friction within both alliances. The ruling coalition, which had appeared organized, now faces the added complexity of internal disagreements and independent nominations from party members. Prominent figures like Nawab Malik of Ajit Pawar’s NCP added to the intrigue by filing two nominations for the Mankhud seat—one as an Independent and another as an NCP member—before his party officially backed him just before the deadline.
In another unexpected development, BJP spokesperson Shaina NC is contesting from Mumbadevi on a Shiv Sena ticket. Despite her nomination, BJP members are reportedly vying for the same seat, highlighting the internal conflicts within the coalition.
With both alliances facing candidate disarray and a trend of leaders filing as Independents, upcoming Maharashtra Elections remain shrouded in suspense.
