Allegedly Raped
In a shocking incident, a female constable was allegedly raped by her neighbor on Saturday night while on her way to celebrate Karwa Chauth with her family in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The accused, identified as Dharmendra Paswan, offered the victim a lift on his motorcycle but instead took her to an isolated area, where the crime occurred, police said.
According to authorities, the woman had arrived in Kanpur for the Karwa Chauth celebrations. After getting off at Pali Chowk, she accepted a ride from Paswan, whom she knew, expecting him to drop her at her destination. However, Paswan diverted the route, claiming he needed to switch off a tube well, leading them to a secluded location.
The woman became suspicious of Paswan’s intentions and tried to stop him. Despite her resistance, Paswan allegedly overpowered and raped her. The constable fought back during the assault, managing to bite Paswan’s finger before escaping. She immediately reported the incident at a nearby police outpost.
Joint Commissioner of Police Harish Chander stated that in an attempt to deflect suspicion, Paswan reported his motorcycle as stolen at another police station. However, the woman identified him when he was brought in for questioning regarding the false theft report.
Paswan was arrested soon after, and he faces charges under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including rape and criminal intimidation. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
