Atishi is well-known for her efforts to enhance governance and education, and her leadership offers the city a new viewpoint. Important political heavyweights and dignitaries will be present during the ceremony, and many are excited about the potential improvements she could bring to Delhi’s future.
Chief Minister Atishi Sworn In: A New Beginning for Delhi
AAP leader Atishi will swear in as Delhi’s chief minister on Saturday afternoon, according to officials who spoke with PTI.
Atishi, the head of the AAP, will be sworn in as Delhi’s chief minister and her council of ministers on Saturday afternoon at Raj Niwas, according to officials.Officials from the lieutenant governor’s office said that President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Atishi as the Chief Minister of Delhi, effective from the day she takes the oath. The President has also accepted Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation.
The President also approved the appointment of five ministers, and they announced that the oath-taking ceremony will be held at Raj Niwas at 4.30 pm.
One AAP leader said the event will probably be low key because there isn’t much optimism in the party following Kejriwal’s resignation and because approvals are taking longer than expected, which means there isn’t much time for planning.
Files pertaining to Kejriwal’s resignation as chief minister of Delhi and his formation of a government by Atishi were sent to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Tuesday, and according to officials, President Droupadi Murmu was asked to approve them.
Atishi to Lead AAP; Kejriwal’s Ministers Keep Their Roles
Atishi was unanimously selected by the AAP MLAs during their earlier this week meeting to lead the party’s legislative branch.
The AAP declared that Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and newcomer Mukesh Ahlawat, a Sultanpur Majra MLA for the first time, would join the new council of ministers.
In the outgoing Kejriwal cabinet, Rai, Gahlot, Bharadwaj, and Hussain held ministerial positions.
AAP leader Kejriwal
On September 13, AAP leader Kejriwal was released from Tihar jail after spending over five months there due to an excise policy case. Two days later, he suddenly announced his resignation, blaming the BJP for accusing him of corruption.
Kejriwal also mentioned that he would ask Delhi voters for a “certificate of honesty” in the upcoming assembly elections and said he would return as chief minister after that.
Given the impending February 2019 Delhi assembly elections, Atishi’s government is unlikely to last long.
A number of long-pending initiatives and social programmes, like the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, the Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, and doorstep service delivery, will require her government’s prompt approval.
Atishi oversaw thirteen ministries in the Kejriwal administration that ended today, including finance, revenue, PWD, power, and education.
Rai was in charge of the departments of development, health, and urban planning, while Bharadwaj was in charge of general administration, tourism, and the environment.
Hussain oversaw supplies and food, while Gahlot handled the home, transportation, and women’s and children’s growth.
According to AAP insiders, Ahlawat might take over the departments left empty by Raaj Kumar Anand’s departure in April, and the four ministers will probably retain their current posts.
