Delhi doctor killed
Early on Thursday morning, police reported that a doctor had been shot and killed inside a nursing home in the Kalindi Kunj neighborhood in southeast Delhi. Around 1.45 in the morning, the accused—who looked to be juveniles—shot Javed Akhtar, a Unani practitioner (BUMS), as he was receiving treatment.
A policeman reported that Javed Akhtar was discovered leaking blood from his head while sitting in a chair. The officer informed news agency PTI that an investigation may have implicated two guys, who were about 16 years old, who had arrived at the three-bed Nima Hospital at around one in the morning for dressing.
According to the officer, it was discovered that one of them had visited the hospital the day before and had a bandaged toe.
The two boys changed and entered Akhtar’s cabin.
A short while later, Mohammad Kamil and Gajala Parveen, night nursing staff, heard gunfire. When Parveen arrived at the cabin, Akhtar was motionless in a pool of blood.
According to the officer, on the surface, it appears to be a case of targeted killing, even though it was unprovoked and entailed reconnaissance.
CCTV footage from the facility’s gallery, dressing room, and reception is being examined by police.
Javed Akhtar, a Unani practitioner, has been on duty since 8 p.m., a staff member named Abid said news agency ANI.
The incident happened at a time when the country is debating whether or not all doctors are safe and secure in the wake of the rape and murder of a woman medic at RG Kar hospital.
A man who was threatening and mistreating the doctor who was treating him was also taken into custody in Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon.
In the meantime, doctors in Kolkata have stopped working and recommenced protesting since the government is not updating security elements like CCTVs and round-the-clock security guards.
Last month, the junior physicians and the west Bengal administration reached an understanding over the doctors’ requests to resume work.
Numerous medical professionals also mentioned how challenging it has been for them to deal with the fear-filled atmosphere at hospitals.
