Hyderabad Petrol Pump
Hyderabad: A shocking incident occurred at a Hyderabad petrol pump on Saturday evening when an intoxicated man ignited a lighter, starting a fire on a dare. The event, which took place around 7 p.m. in the Nacharam area, led to panic and the arrest of both the accused and a petrol pump employee.
The accused, identified as Chiran, arrived at the petrol pump visibly drunk, carrying a cigarette lighter. Arun, one of the employees, noticed Chiran’s erratic behavior and, in a misguided challenge, dared him to light the device if he “had the guts.” In response, Chiran lit the lighter while Arun was fueling a scooter, triggering a sudden burst of flames.
At the time of the incident, 10 to 11 people were present at the petrol pump, including two employees. CCTV footage captures the chilling moments that followed, showing people running from the scene as flames erupted. A woman and child standing near the fire narrowly escaped, highlighting the dangerous nature of the incident.
Police arrived promptly, arresting both Chiran and Arun. They were charged with mischief by fire and explosives, a serious offense given the potential for a catastrophic explosion in the crowded area. According to Inspector G. Rudvir Kumar of Nacharam Police, “This dangerous act not only put lives at risk but could have caused a catastrophic explosion, especially in this crowded area with heavy traffic.”
Both accused men, who are from Bihar, are set to be presented in court, authorities confirmed. The incident has sparked concerns about safety protocols at petrol stations and the responsibility of employees in ensuring a safe environment for customers.
