Tamil Nadu Rains
In the past 24 hours, Kudimiyanmalai in Pudukkottai district recorded the heaviest rainfall of 13 cm, signaling the beginning of an intense rain spell across Tamil Nadu. The well-marked low-pressure area over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a depression, bringing more heavy rain in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a bulletin confirming that the weather system is likely to consolidate into a depression and move toward the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh by October 17, 2024. Already, heavy rains have lashed Chennai and its surrounding districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur on the morning of October 15.
