The ‘Dil-Luminati’ event in Hyderabad is scheduled to feature Punjabi musician and actor Diljit Dosanjh on Friday at 7 PM at GMR Arena, Airport Approach Road. However, the Telangana government’s legal letter warning him against performing songs that encourage violence, drugs, or alcohol has overshadowed the occasion. The Legal Notice Notice to ‘Patiala Peg’ Singer Diljit Dosanjh .
The Legal Notice
The Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens, Rangareddy district’s district welfare officer issued the notice on November 7. This action came after a professor from Chandigarh named Panditrao Dharenavar submitted a complaint, claiming that Dosanjh’s songs advocate dangerous activities.
According to the complainant’s video evidence, Dosanjh performed songs that encouraged violence, drugs, and alcohol during a concert on October 26 and 27 at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The notice explicitly stated:
“We are issuing this notice in advance to deter promoting these in your live show.”
Additional Restrictions
The notice prohibited youngsters from performing on stage during the concert in addition to limiting certain songs. It highlighted that sound levels above 140 dB are detrimental to adults and that youngsters shouldn’t be subjected to levels beyond 120 dB, citing World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.
The concert guidelines already caution against loud noises and flashing lights, which can be harmful to youngsters, and the organizers were reminded of this.
Punjabi Music Industry Under Fire
The incident highlights ongoing criticism of the Punjabi music industry, often accused of glorifying gun culture and substance abuse. Late singer Sidhu Moosewala faced similar allegations in 2020 for his song ‘Sanju,’ which referenced a case against him under the Arms Act.
Songs like ‘Patiala Peg’ and ‘5 Taara’ by Diljit Dosanjh have also faced backlash for promoting alcohol. In 2022, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann publicly warned artists against promoting violence and drug abuse through their music.
Concert Preparations
Despite the legal complications, the ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert is expected to draw over 20,000 fans. Diljit Dosanjh arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday to prepare for the event. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty confirmed adequate measures for crowd control, traffic management, and security.
“The crowd is expected to be over 20,000 people. Police have been deployed for traffic, crowd control, and crime. There are no specific curbs from our side,” Mohanty stated.
Conclusion
While Diljit Dosanjh’s concert promises to be a spectacle for his fans, the legal notice serves as a reminder of the growing scrutiny around content that could negatively influence society. It remains to be seen how the singer will address these restrictions while keeping the energy of his performance intact.
